hi, wondered if was possible to get pregnant without sex or artificial insemination. I mean getting sperm on your finger, then placing it inside the vagina, or other such action?

Yes. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was conceived by the action of the Holy Spirit, and without the intervention of any human being. He was born also while leaving our Blessed Lady still, and for all time, a Virgin most Pure.
It's possible, but pretty hard. A man's ejaculation contains quite a lot of sperm (in volume terms compared to what you're talking about with the finger) for good reason: a woman is just not a friendly place for sperm to be. Lots and lots die out very quickly in the hostile chemical environment, and if any get up further its a hard fight to make it to the egg. So, as a way to get pregnant, a clinic would reject it as a poor option, but if you did this once and then felt any symptoms, a clinic would also want to see you pretty sharpish. I think your chances of getting an STD are reduced but not obliterated by such an action. For example, the risk of HIV...since there has been no 'abrasive action'..
Assuming, of course, that an egg is even in position...

This could be a total urban myth but years and years ago my dad used to have a "strange but true" type of book which included the following story which they said was genuine:

- Somewhere in the US towards the end of the last century an off duty soldier was shot through the testicle (can't remember the version of events leading up to this, but it was in public). The same bullet came to rest in the abdomen of a young woman who, 9 months or so later gave birth despite being a virgin.

Apparently the bullet had taken some sperm with it and this had met with the egg and, you know the rest. This book also claimed that the pair were introduced once doctors had worked out what must have happened ..... and lived happily ever after of course !

I remain cynical, and suspect this was an urban myth !

Apparently sperm can live for up to a week after ejaculation but I imagined this to be in a different environment than the tip of your finger.
Can someone educate me on the "abrasive action" part of the HIV theory? MargeB, are you havering?
Gilli, the story's balderdash, as you rightly suspected.

Hi Stevie, I'm not havering, but good to know someone else uses that word! (I thought it was old scottish)

It was my understanding at last glance that AIDS can be transmitted during sex by 'microabrasions' occurring on both parties, and the virus goes to the blood through this route. I'll check for refs.

I've heard of successful conception using a turkey baster as a means of injecting the sperm.

I actually do know someone who got pregnant without ever having had complete sexual intercourse - basically her and her boyfriend were practising 'everything but' and she fell pregnant. Bit of a shock for her - she was 17 - and apparently a total scandal at her school.

I knew her at uni, her daughter was 3 when she casually dropped this fact into conversation - and left me totally stunned. During sex ed we had been told this could happen but it seemed totally unlikely. Apparently it was a virgin conception - but not a virgin birth. She said it seemed pointless waiting once she knew she was 2 months pregnant!

She is clearly very fertile - (she'd stayed with her boyfriend and they are now married and together 12 years on )- one day she told us they'd decided to start trying for a 2nd child and she got pregnant the same month.

Oh and as for the other discussion on this thread - the HIV virus passes from bodily fluid to bodily fluid so yes could in theory enter the body through abrasions / cuts if an infected person's bodily fluid including sperm came into contact...

Lillabet, the "debate" mid thread here is whether you're less likely to get HIV from infected sperm if it's inserted into you on the tip of your finger as opposed to ejaculated inside you. The latter has this "abrasive" action which is argued to increase infection.
Hope that's not too graphic for anyone.

Any abrasive action I've heard of is to scrub OFF something that may be infected to stop yourself from catching the infection.
Lillabet, if you believe your friend then you will believe anything. What do you mean by "complete sexual intercourse?" Either there is penetration or there is not. Even if the man does not "ejaculate" there is still a chance of pregnancy.

Gef: Honestly it is perfectly possible - ask a doctor if you don't believe me. It is unlikely and I've never heard of anyone else who got pregnant this way but she did. I do believe her. She's a very truthful, highly intelligent person who had no reason to lie - she didn't mention it as a big dramatic shock thing.

I was teaching part time and had to take a sex ed class. I mentioned that this had come up - possibility of pregnancy this way - as it was in the materials and opined that I thought this was impossible. At which point she said 'no, that's how I got pregnant the first time.'

By not having had complete sexual intercourse I mean in medical terms that penetration had not occurred. However they were doing everything but penetration and at the risk of being graphic this led to sperm coming into contact with her vagina though not through penetration and she got pregnant.

I am not overly gullible, if anything I sometimes tend towards the cynical...

"everything but"....er I might be a little dim but can some one explain what this means. Is it Vatican Roullete or what used to be referred to in my day as heavy petting.
Mutual masturbation with the genitals in close contact but falling short of penetration maybe?

Thats what I like to hear fingers first, maybe the saviour was concieved in such a manner, which means that dirty old man had his way with yiou know who and she may have been asleep, so everything we know about religion us based on a dirty old man, come on you rain coated guy, maybe there the real followers of you know who.

PS thank fek where no discussing Alllah or Id be in Jehad land right now talking to Salmand me only mate and wondering what hes gonna do with his fingers when Im asleep.

I have never had sex but me and my boyfriend fool around from time to time. I came off birth control 4 months back so I expected to be a little irregular but I am over a month late. Are you saying there is a possibility I am pregnant? I mean there is a possibility that his sperm came in contact with me but does anyone know what exactly the chances are?
I am wondering the same thing i have never had sex or touched a man or had artificial insemination but i have missed my period is there any other way that i could have gotten pregnet?
