- Somewhere in the US towards the end of the last century an off duty soldier was shot through the testicle (can't remember the version of events leading up to this, but it was in public). The same bullet came to rest in the abdomen of a young woman who, 9 months or so later gave birth despite being a virgin.
Apparently the bullet had taken some sperm with it and this had met with the egg and, you know the rest. This book also claimed that the pair were introduced once doctors had worked out what must have happened ..... and lived happily ever after of course !
I remain cynical, and suspect this was an urban myth !
Hi Stevie, I'm not havering, but good to know someone else uses that word! (I thought it was old scottish)
It was my understanding at last glance that AIDS can be transmitted during sex by 'microabrasions' occurring on both parties, and the virus goes to the blood through this route. I'll check for refs.
I actually do know someone who got pregnant without ever having had complete sexual intercourse - basically her and her boyfriend were practising 'everything but' and she fell pregnant. Bit of a shock for her - she was 17 - and apparently a total scandal at her school.
I knew her at uni, her daughter was 3 when she casually dropped this fact into conversation - and left me totally stunned. During sex ed we had been told this could happen but it seemed totally unlikely. Apparently it was a virgin conception - but not a virgin birth. She said it seemed pointless waiting once she knew she was 2 months pregnant!
She is clearly very fertile - (she'd stayed with her boyfriend and they are now married and together 12 years on )- one day she told us they'd decided to start trying for a 2nd child and she got pregnant the same month.
Oh and as for the other discussion on this thread - the HIV virus passes from bodily fluid to bodily fluid so yes could in theory enter the body through abrasions / cuts if an infected person's bodily fluid including sperm came into contact...
Hope that's not too graphic for anyone.
Any abrasive action I've heard of is to scrub OFF something that may be infected to stop yourself from catching the infection.
Gef: Honestly it is perfectly possible - ask a doctor if you don't believe me. It is unlikely and I've never heard of anyone else who got pregnant this way but she did. I do believe her. She's a very truthful, highly intelligent person who had no reason to lie - she didn't mention it as a big dramatic shock thing.
I was teaching part time and had to take a sex ed class. I mentioned that this had come up - possibility of pregnancy this way - as it was in the materials and opined that I thought this was impossible. At which point she said 'no, that's how I got pregnant the first time.'
By not having had complete sexual intercourse I mean in medical terms that penetration had not occurred. However they were doing everything but penetration and at the risk of being graphic this led to sperm coming into contact with her vagina though not through penetration and she got pregnant.
I am not overly gullible, if anything I sometimes tend towards the cynical...
