I really do feel milk keeps far better in glass bottles of which we no longer receive any more. However my cousin and one other person get glass bottles from their milk men.

Does know anyone know where you can buy the glass bottles in Belfast

My local milkman still delivers in glass bottles from his electric milk float
Question Author
tony does he come from Belfast please
you'll have to find who delivers milk in your place of living and then pop in your postcode to find out if they deliver to you

our delivery men around here have all stopped delivering as we are no lots of supermarkets. so hardly ever see one. I was hoping to get the bottle in a supermarket per se.
Ah I see, I'm really not sure
The cost of a pint of milk in a bottle delivered to your door is shocking - 81p for bog standard semi skimmed milk. I pay 24p and it lasts at least 4 days beyond the best before date.
jenny look for Cravendale filtered. Its not in glass bottles but keeps for ages....my current bottle has a use by of march 18th and was delivered on feb 26th

that's my whole problem with [plastic milk - it never keeps - no matter what
you can freeze milk
Is your fridge kept cold enough, jenny? I haven't had milk go off for many years and I rarely use it before the use by date
Couple of dairies in Dundee have started delivering milk in glass bottles once again. JJ could you "decant" your milk into a glass bottle? Personally have never had a problem with plastic containers and rarely use by sell by date.

yes Maggie - would buy that - will be over in that area some time this week. No matter what date on carton - it starts to smell like within 3-4days and I have always to throw it out. Sister says the same thing.

and sorry maggie - thanks for tht link
I agree with woofgang - the Cravendale filtered milk lasts and tastes good too.
Milk tastes much better out of a glass bottle afaic :-)
not an answer jenny but an observation on my point. I buy 4 pint plastic bottles of milk from the supermarket, one for the fridge & one goes in the freezer. I found that my milk was going 'off' so was spilling it away but discovered that the actual milk in the bottle was fine to use but the smell was coming from the neck part of the bottle & lid where it left traces of milk. My sense of smell is acute but I then would put some milk in a cup & ad boiled water - if it split....it's off but if it didn't & smelt ok....I used it. Check temperature in your fridge like someone mentioned
