For the last few nights I've been woken by two or three sharp stabbing pains in my foot. It's like being hit with a mild electric shock or cattle prod !
I am on a blood thinner for Atrial Fibrulation and a home course of chemo tablets.
I had them too, Derek, and got told it was peripheral neuropathy. In my case I was lucky and it wore off, been clear now for several years. In my case it was a hangover from drinking - alcoholism can have odd effects.
I hope yours wears off, as it is a sod being woken up every 10 minutes.
I agree with bainbrig, it certainly sounds like peripheral neuropathy of which the commonest cause by far is diabetes. You don't mention that in your post.
You say that you are taking blood thinners for atrial fibrillation, do we know the cause of this AF, as if it is ischaemic heart disease, then that may be another cause of your leg pains.
I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes and I have regular full blood tests as part of my cancer treatment.
I don't know the cause of my A.F, Sqad, except that it occurred quite suddenly and affects one of my heart valves.
I forgot to mention that I've recently completed ( successfully) a course of radiotherapy. Also, because of my medication, I've been on the wagon for at least six months and never been a heavy drinker.
