Passing Away Without A Will

What is the procedure when somebody dies without making a Will ? Who sorts out their financial affairs etc ?

telling the govt agencies is now much easier as they have a 'do once and share' scheme which is now well known, and easily activated

I had to apply for "Letters of Administration" re my Dad's estate and I think my brother had to confirm that he agreed to my having that duty. It is a bit different if the deceased owned a house or land to if they only had "chattels" like my father (mobile home on a rented site). Can't remember more I'm afraid.

I wound up an intestate's estate who has insolvent.
but I dont think this is the case here - and as you can imagine it is completely different

time to reminisce - everyone said why was I bothering? I told the family his only cash assets were £2.91 in the side board ( not enought for a bottle of anything) and yup four weeks later one of the bruvvuz, said - you found just under three hundred pounds on the sideboard - can we have it please ?
I buried him and we parted on good terms
