Decorating Question

I would like to decorate my bedroom, the walls are not the best, neither myself or my OH can wallpaper, and we cant really afford to pay someone to do it, OH can put a bit of paint on the walls, but as they are not ideal, I was wondering if there, is something similar to paint that would cover uneven walls

If you have imperfect walls use matt.

You may need a wash (diluted paint) coat first. Can't hurt.

I have seen somewhere about a kind of paint which evens out the wall before putting the final layer,sorry cannt remember much about it will look and see if I can find out more...but it sounded really good...probably be a bit dear but could be worth it.

Just how uneven are the walls, fruits?

Is it just small, local holes, or larger, areas of high spots and lows?

Fruit salad you really need to get paper off some how. Maybe local council can help with some volunteers?

Not too bad Kloof, the everbuild one comes out at £18.33 for 5 litres but that is in a sale. I don't what either of them are like.

Thank you all for suggestions there is no holes as such just in places its very uneven, its like the plaster has blown at some point and the loose plaster has been scraped off but its left lines and an uneven surface in places, I think we will try the filler coat

There is no real way round bad walls, apart from getting a plasterer to skim it over,. As regards to polycell smooth over you still need to be (very) handy with a trowel, ( not as easy as they make out on the tin) its still very much like a plaster finish coat.

Perfect answer from teacake there, fruitsalad. It's such a shame people shy away from plastering. You wouldn't have to do the whole wall, just the dips and cracks.

The Polycell and the EverBuild products mentioned earlier would be fine. I would suggest though, that you don't try to use a roller. You won't have the control over varying thicknesses.

Use a plastering/decorating comb such as this.....
