If I get a new job (and am earning slightly more money) is there any need to tell my mortgage lender?

no. Only if you want to change your mortgage, but then it will only be to your advantage as you are earning more, thus allowing you to borrow more.
Probably not (but read your agreement to check). I once took on a mortgage when I was about to leave a secure occupation (teaching) and start running my own business. The guy who processed my application said that as long as the information on the form was correct at the time I applied, it didn't matter at all what occupation I had later on.

If your type of occupation (rather than just your employer) has changed, you are meant to notify any companies with which you hold insurance policies (That includes the house & contents policies but also covers things like motor insurance).
