Question For Buenchico.

A couple of weeks ago you advised me to purchase a laptop, link below.

I bought it a couple of days ago and really pleased with it, thanks very much.

The small problem I have with it is that when I first turned it on and got it firing, the battery was showing 90% plus charge, I've bought a new cable to charge it but its been on all day while I've been using it for awhile, but it hasn't charged charged at all, its now down to 35%, the small light is on at the back and if I run the cursor over the battery icon it just gives me a reading on the charge left in it, and not that it is plugged in and charging.

Have you any idea what I need to do next.

I'm sorry to bother you, but i'm not a techy at all and need talking through any problem.

Firstly, why have you bought a new cable? There must surely have been one with the device.

Secondly, with the (new) cable connected to a switched on power socket, remove the other end from the laptop and then re-insert it - does the battery icon in the bottom right system tray show any noticeable change?

Made in Scotland; I bought it from a company that refurb laptops and sell them on, I must admit that I thought a mains cable would be included, but sadly not.
Ive tried what you suggested and nothing at all, i've managed to get an icon up that says, 'Battery 1 not present' and 'Battery 2 35%'.

I'm confused as to why you'd need a new charger unit, as the laptop should have been delivered to you with a perfectly functional one. (That's certainly what I'd have expected anyway).

My suspicion is that you've bought a duff charger. That would seem to be more likely than the battery packing up just after the laptop has been delivered to you. However if you've got BOTH the supplied battery (that's 'new' to you) AND a new charger, it's hard to be certain as to where the fault lies.

So . . .
1. Did the laptop come with a charger unit? (If so, have you tried using it instead of the one you've gone out and bought?) ;
2. Are you using the battery that came with the laptop or did you follow my advice and purchase a new one?

Sounds like the charger is not working.

Imwould get back in touch with the company you bought the laptop from and state that no charger came with it.

I'd also, get in touch with where you bought the charger.

It could also be that the laptop is faulty.

Give AC Computer Warehouse a call to query the absence of a charger unit. I'd certainly have expected to get one with the laptop and it might just have been an oversight on their part. (ACCW's customer service is, in my experience, second to none).

Oh dear God, I'm losing the plot!

I'm so sorry, I've just checked the box that the laptop was delivered in and, low and behold in a separate section, underneath some bubble wrap, there is a charger!

I've plug it in and it is now charging.

A trip back to PC World tomorrow to return the mains cable they sold me, definitely faulty!

Once again Buenchico and others, I cannot apologise enough, I feel so stupid, I put it down to be nearing 72 and I don't suppose it'll get any better.

You've advised me before on buying a PC and a Brother Laser Printer, both first class buys, I really do appreciate your knowledge on such things.

I'm relieved to know that ACCW hasn't slipped up. I've bought loads of stuff from them and recommended them to lots of friends and ABers, who've then gone on to buy from them. So it's good to know that (now you've found the charger) you seem to be satisfied with my recommendation. (I'd hate to think that I'd been responsible for someone forking out the better part of five hundred quid and then suffering massive disappointment!)

PS: I've just checked on the price of that laptop (as quoted on a trustworthy review site) when it was new to the market just four years ago. It cost a hefty £2,886. I reckon you've got a bargain ;-)
