I know theres a few Stokies on here but Stoke on Trent has to be one of the worst places on Gods green earth to live.

Incompetent council, incompetent councillors and MP's.
Wasteland left by so called 'regeneration' schemes that went tits up.
The list could go on.

Yesterday I decided to (spontaneously) have a day in Manchester, had a pleasant train ride, a stroll around the museums, the Arndale etc. Had a good day just been on my own and enjoying a different atmosphere.

The difference in the 'vibe' was noticible.

Then I come back home to my own city....and a sinking feeling!

Nothing that a lottery win won't cure.

Bobbisox1 like Newcastle used to live in south shield for a short time great place, as for my home city of Nottingham went back last year to visit sister the city centre look like a dump! Hope the nightlife is lively as it was.
My father and all his brothers and sister were born in Stoke on Trent. His father went to Port talbot to work in the steelworks. My grandmother was born in new castle upon
Tyne. She ended up in port talbot too. I am Welsh, but proud of my English background
I don't think either Nailit, nor many of his correspondents get the point of his question.

Why is it (Stoke) cuffed up now more than previously?
It's not much different to a lot of places though.
A lot of Town and City centres suffer because of inability by small set up businesses being able to afford rent/CT of units.

Fewer people visit town centre pubs unless they are eating and larger stores and multiplexes are on the outskirts with all you need and ample parking too.

The amount of regeneration has been left so late that in some areas it's hard to pull things back.
Always astonished how our parents and their generation coped wherever that lived. I am nearly 69
Im a Southerner so never been, but i thought it was home to the famous potteries and lovely ceramics and was planning a visit.
Fraser, nightlife in Newcastle is still very popular I'm told lol, as not my cup of tea although loved it in the 80s when the Tuxedo Princess floating nightclub was moored on the Tyne

Some of us know V_E , believe me, some of us know. The people who live there know too but the strength to kick back against it has been exhausted. Those who could left long ago. They did take with them though the contempt for the "system" that brought about such destruction. When they vote now they remember and vote to try and prevent it happening where they now live. The pollsters, tabloids, and politicians(a plague be on them) all wonder out loud why such voting patterns exist and pointedly ignore the reason, when they know full well the reason. I have met many people who have fled the inner City social "experiment" believe me they would make your ears bleed.
