What kind of material would you say his suit was made from please?

Possibly a worsted wool or cashmere and silk mix to give that sheen.
Teflon.

I want one :0)
My Husband had some cashmere/silk suits made - they were very expensive.
A work colleague had a shiny suit back in the 70s. Some kind of man-made fibre I think. Looked different colours at times. Why the question?
Khandro wants one, best raid the piggy bank.
best suit I have is by ESL
The best one I have is by TK Max. :-)
Best one I have is from the Charity Shop.
Isn't that what they describe as sharkskin?
Denton yes that's were I got my dinner suit from.
davebro, that might have been tonik cloth that your colleague had...beloved of skinheads and very expensive. https://jumpthegun.co.uk/product/two-tone-purple-tonic-suit-by-jtg/
I used to have a pair of shiny trousers as a youth. I thought they were staypress but maybe not. Suspect man-made material, they were dark but if the light caught it just so would seem shiny green. Thought one could get red also. Now wondering what material it was. They're long gone.
I seem to remember sharkskin as being very popular in the '60s.

The best one I have is shiny and repels x-rays, photon rays, gamma rays, moon-beam rays, and, when I go SCUBA-diving, manta rays...It's quite indispensable.

according to pasta's link ;
"Nonetheless, "natural sharkskin" from the 1950s and 1960s men's and women's suits remain highly sought in the vintage clothing market, commanding extraordinary prices online. The most desired sharkskin colors feature a peacock iridescent palette."

I'd like a suit with a sheen like LBJ's but I think 'iridescent peacock' would not be quite me. :0)
