I have never spat my dummies out with regard to the current POTUS or vented my spleen with vicious spite and unfounded accusations. I have always believed he has done well for his country. He is supposed to have their interests at heart and amen to that.
I rather think he is losing it a bit recently with his current suggestions. Kurds 2nd World War eh!
Perhaps he is thinking how we did SFA for the Poles and Czecks after WW2 and allowed the Russians to torture and incarcerate their fellow fighters after beating off the Germans and liberating Russia. I am talking the 2nd Front here. Boy did we stab them in the back.?

Apparently the Kurds would loved to have helped us in WW2 but their bone spurs were a bit painful at the time.
I'll admit I don't know much about the political situation re the Kurds, but what I don't really understand is why there's no mention of Syria in all this - Syria is the country that Turkey is bombing am I right? So what does Syria, (and Russia) think about that - are they happy for Turkey to be bombing a bit of their country as long as it's the bit that the people they don't like are in - is that how it works?

Fearing America being drawn into another Iraq, the US decided to bring down Assad in Syria using a proxy army of Syrian Rebels. They gave them loads of money, equipment and intell. Unfortunately they were mainly ISIS fighters and their aim was to create a Caliphate.
When it dawned on the US that they had created a monster, the enlisted the Syrian Kurds whose motives were territorial and nationalistic, rather than fanatical religious nuttery. The Kurds stopped, and then defeated ISIS.
Barely had the present POTUS tweeted his joy (and taken the credit for ISIS’s defeat) then he decided it would be a good vote winner to bring the US troops home.
Turkey, long time enemy of the Kurds could not believe their luck at such a stupid mistake by Trump, and they set about attacking the Kurds with indecent haste.
For America it’s a clear instance of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They are now being humiliated by Turkey. ISIS can reform. They have spent $Billions and Assad is more powerful than ever. And suddenly America looks weak and dishonourable.

I was musing on that, Ludwig. Everyone saying who should do what including the US should give the Kurds autonomy for what they've done. No-one has mentioned the Syrians whose country it is after all.
The Kurds recently handed over the running of a town/region to Assad's forces. Seems they knew they couldn't rely on American protection until the end of time. If the Turks do attack that town, it will open up a whole new range of possibilities.

Granted it's a tall order. But, since Trump has offered to mediate the dispute *after* it's started, it clearly was something he'd think about trying beforehand. But now Turkey has every advantage, no incentive to come to any agreement, and essentially has carte blanche to do what they've wanted to for years and years, if not decades. Stable door, horse, bolted spring to mind.

Ichi, they've been talking about Hillary running, on US tv, for the last 2 weeks. She's talked several times about running again, including, as cassa said, beating Trump again . She's third favourite to be the Dem. Presidential candidate.

It's a story that's only broken in the last couple of days, Ich, and at this point as far as I can see it's only a "musing" about the idea of running again. But let's be clear here: Clinton only suggested anything like it after Trump goaded her about it in a tweet. So it's not serious at this stage.
