Could I clarify the answer to 11d please? The majority of posters have said that the answer is "amyl" as opposed to "aryl" or "acyl".

Is this because aryl alcohol and acyl alcohol do not exist?
Or is there some other reason.

I am afraid you are all wrong. The answer is acyl. An organic radical having the general formula RCO, derived from the removal of a hydroxyl group from an organic acid. It is this radical that turns your wine to vinegar.

The clue specifically asks for an alcohol radical so I think it must be amyl, not acyl.
