Planning nightmare

I have been at my current address for approx 10 weeks. Although I bought the property knowing there would be planning permission granted on the plot next to my house.
The side of my detached house enjoys sunlight from approx mid day right through to sunset. This makes our landing, hallway and rear reception very light and airy. I have just received notice of the application showing two houses the nearest to my property being 1.0m from the boundry. My property is 1.1m from the boundry. The soffit on my house is 5.0m from the floor the soffit on the new house is 7.5m from the floor. The ridges are both approx the same level. They have configured the new property to include an attic room. They would not of got permission for a 5 Bed house. The appilcation is for two 4 Bed with attic rooms. The soffit on the front of the house are approx level but the flank wall soffit is 2.5m higher to allow for the attic room. This is going to make my house very dark, is there any thing I can do?

You imply at first that planning permission had been granted to the development next door, before you bought your house. If this was the case, then there seems to be very little you can do about it now. But then, later, you imply that planning permission has only just been applied for; which would mean that you could object to the local Council. Presumably, the grounds of your objection would be that the proposed development is too big and too close to your house.
I'm with the other reply JD.
Either it's been granted or it hasn't - I'm not aware of any system that says "You don't have permission but you'll get it if you ask".
Planning can be objected to and refused. That's why they send you notification , & why you have a right to see plans before permission is granted.
So lodge your objection.
