Couple near me in a cafe today, she was really upset, odd to be having this conversation so that she could be heard, but she was saying she didn't know where to turn about her money problems, all her cards are maxed out and she is terrified about the situation. Her partners response was "well you'd better sort it before it becomes my problem too" which made her cry. I know she has probably only herself to blame but I did feel sorry for her.

Depends on what she maxed her cards on. Bills and food, she'd have my sympathy, being skint is a horrible lonely place.
