Did anyone watch the BBC2 drama Responsible Child? Found it quite disturbing. Apparently in England and Wales a 10 year old is too young to buy a hamster but can be tried for murder. Would be interested to see what others thought.

Didn't see it, but:
It's just common sense to not allow someone too young to realise they won't remain responsible for a pet, regardless of their present enthusiasm, to buy one by themselves.
It's also reasonable to realise that a 10 year old can understand the difference between right and wrong, at least in major obvious circumstances (unless the individual has mental issues) and thus could be tried for murder. (One assumes their age is taken into consideration at the time of judgement.)
Watched it, very moving.
Y0U WERE RIGHT, MAMY, AND IT IS I WH0 STAND C0RRECTED. THE ARTICLE I READ SAID THE DRAMA WAS BASED 0N 'SIMILAR CASES'. ABERRANTS LINK MAKES IT CLEAR IT WAS BASED 0N JUST THE 0NE CASE.
Watched it. The acting was brilliant. I totally agree with OG at 6:36.

Did anyone else want to give his mum a good shake? Result of an abusive relationship?
^ YES !
Heart-breaking when that mother rejected him. She needed more than a shake!
UMMMM, just watched the end credits again and it said 7,057 had been tried in the crown courts.
come on - it was a drama ( based on fact)

we know that children kill ( other children and adults)
from the Rhys Evans shooting. and little James Bulger

I found it too distressing to see thro to the end - but that I think was the point - what happened in the end?
PP his mother rejected him because the authorities took her two youngest children away and she obviously blamed him. He and his brother were found guilty of murder and sent to jail, but no idea for how long. The lad obviously didn't go to an adult jail and he was seemingly well cared for.
