I have heard rave reviews about opera.
Believe me, I have tried and tried to listen to it, understand it, enjoy it, but with me it falls on deaf ears.

I simply don't get it, don't enjoy it, don't even like it.

Is it the Emperors New Clothes again? You know, kid yourself that it is good, to impress others?

It must be good for some, but it,is lost on me.

LOL:-)
I like male opera singers but really dislike women opera singers - too “screechy” for me.
Theland - here's a thought.....start with Gilbert & Sullivan, then The Merry Widow and work your way on from there. :)
It can't be all bad Theland. Many adverts over the years have used opera to sell things and advertisers usually know a thing or two about what appeals to the general public.

I watched a bit of Madam Butterfly (I think it was,) a few weeks ago, but got bored after the host was showing the guest around the house/room, they had little to say and said it too much!
I know I am missing out, because so many people love opera, and I want to as well.
Naomi mentioned one coming on the Empire in Liverpool soon, so might try to book for that (as long as I am not expected to "dress up" for it, in an elitist outfit - not got one).
i love it, but don't get much of Wagner... all that trilling yikes.
theland go for it, you will enjoy it i am sure. its a great story with delicious music.

I loved the music from the open air opera in the Hannibal Lecter film.
Don't know what it was about, but very moving.

Just googled the ticket prices for the Liverpool Empire in March.
Start from £70 so that's it, too expensive for me.
Tickets for The Welsh National Opera’s production of Carmen in Liverpool in March start at £13.
