Another Windows 10 Question.
Having had W10 successfully installed on my pc from W7 Pro I find that I've lost Microsoft Word and other, more recoverable, things. However, just before the upgrade I backed up my hard drive onto an external drive (My Passport).
So, can I download my external drive onto the pc safely, and thereby recover Word etc, or will I do more harm than good ? Thanks for all advice.
Cheers.

If Word came with your old computer as a pre-installed package, you've lost it and will either have to buy a copy or download one of the free versions (Open Office etc). You can copy documents from your old machine and they will be compatible with whichever version of Word you opt for,
As bhg481 states, if you've not got a program on your computer you need to go through the installation process to acquire it. For that, you need the setup files, rather than the program files from another drive.
However I'm wondering whether you've actually lost Microsoft Word anyway. It might be that the program is still there but the shortcut to it has disappeared. Try using the search box to look for 'Word'. If it's there, you'll simply need to add a shortcut to it onto your desktop, taskbar or apps menu.
Otherwise forget Microsoft Word and install OpenOffice instead:
