Norton Pop Up on Windows 7

Another question about Norton -- please see the thread I have just typed below this one. I keep getting pop ups from Norton saying they have blocked spam -- is this normal, do I just delete it ? Is this Norton's way of saying keep safe, pay us for another year ? Does it matter if I block these pop ups ?

uninstall norton altogether,then download and run the "norton removal tool" to clear out any left overs,nortons expensive and uses a lot of comp resources too,
use the very good free ones like AVG or AVAST antivirus progs and ZONE ALARM firewall,
