Does anyone know how prevalent this is? Do you know of anyone whose pet has had it, or has your pet had it? Do you have your pet treated against it?
Our dog had his annual jabs and kennel cough nasal spray yesterday, and the vet has given us some information about lungworm. Apparently the treatment only lasts for three months so it would mean an extra three visits per year to the vet, on top of the annual one.
Your thoughts please. Thank you.
why do you have to go to the vet? Mine get Milbemax wormer which yes is a prescription med but is given at home, frequency depends on whwere you live and what your dogs do. Your dog might need to be seen once more a year if the vet needs to see them evry six months to prescribe but some will prescribe a years doses at the vacc visit. The other tablet is Milpro also prescription.
My vet requires to see any animal of mine only once a year and prescribes all Advocate required within that year. Usually do it when I go for boosters. So agree with woofgang, once a year to vets except if your pet is ill of course.
What do you currently give your dog for fleas and have you checked that whatever it is doesn't cover for lungworm?
Just an idea but as it doesn't take long to soak in you could distract them by giving them something to chew on to keep them otherwise engaged for a little while. You're probably happy with what you're doing currently so I'll say no more:-)
Ask your vet if Bravecto pill and Serestar collars are any good for lung worm. We use them here in Portugal along with Heart Guard Guardian for heartworm. The Guardian is once a year after the dog is 6months and the other two every 5 months
