I'm no expert but they have massive health/housing shortages yet keep voting for pro-immigration parties.

They say they want to replace the Irish with the New Irish and make it illegal to voice concerns about immigration.
Still they vote the party that promises higher benefits/pensions.

Probably because of realistic expectations in a PR multi-member-constituency voting system. Irish politics is rather strange. You have two main parties which developed out of the Civil War divisions but which these days are largely indistinguishable on a broad range of issues. Confusingly also, each also grew out of the original Sinn Fein party, which...

**^^^ If Spicerack says so.

Sounds very like Likud CrapAtCryptics.
A shame Spice....This had the potential to be a very good thread indeed, but has been stunted by a couple of contributors who were only looking for a bad tempered episode or another chance for it to be all about them. This is an issue that is going to come back again on another thread and hopefully then have a chance of being discussed in a mature fashion. There are dark forces at work in Irish politics and we would be wise to keep a weather eye open for the next episode. Did you know that over a third of the people on the waiting list for state sponsored housing are immigrants? Wonder what the figure is in the rest of Britain.
I assume that gains made were probably due to protest votes. So now they're likely stuck with a hung parliament and have to wait ages to get a chance to elect an effective one in it's place. Still it's a bigger risk when operating the transferable vote system. It seems to have a tendency to give less clear leadership than FPTP.

It could still be a good thread, IF you Togo, or Spicerack could produce ANY facts/proof to justify your hyperbole.

We are waiting...
This may explain the disenchantment with the two parties that have become complacent whilst relying on the EUSSR to do their work for them. More than ten thousand people are homeless out of a population of just over 4 million. Nearly a quarter of a percent of the population is without a home. And this is despite the fact that in Dublin alone over 30,000 properties are kept vacant by their owners. Perhaps all the Irish "travellers" will make their way back and chuck up a few permanent camps overnight like they seem to be able to over here. They could even do a bit of tarmacking on the QT whilst they are "in the area".
