I think they use the term non-skilled rather than unskilled. But if you are on a starting salary for any job you are not particularly skilled are you but will move up the salary scale with experience and maybe more qualifications and maybe based on performance. A nurse with 5 years experience abroad for example would not expect to be offered the lowest point on the scale.
Maybe the terms unskilled/non-skilled/skilled should not be used since even a sewing machinist on £12000 or bus driver on £18000 would claim to be skilled in their profession
Well Naomi, I'm sure if I was sick in hospital I wouldn't be too bothered whether my nurse had 4 year's experience or had just been in training for 2 years. No worker is "unskilled". Everyone who holds down a job has a skill.
maggie yes you would. some of the things those people do do require careful and specific training. You'd want to be sure that the person doing those things was trained to requisite standard and assessed as competent.
Maggiebee, depending on your requirements it’s likely you may well be bothered but that’s beside the point. Skill comes with experience - as do higher salaries.
Naomi//I just checked your figure for nurses and that’s what a student nurse earns. Students aren’t skilled. They’re in training.//
Where else is Johnson going to find all these nurses he’s promised?
If it helps avoid a stupidly pedantic argument I'll ignore the information I referred to and call nurses new to the profession 'Learners'. Not a great word - but descriptive.
Because dear Naomi you set yourself up as the font of all information. My two nieces graduated as nurses from university and I can assure you they were not paid during their "training".
You must get really frustrated by all the idiots on this site that you have to correct. Ah well, up the wooden stairs to bedfordshire. Sleep tight.
newly qualified nurses are not learners (well they are only in the sense that most of us learn every day), they are qualified professionals
you could not use it as a defence, if you were for example give someone the wrong pills. You couldnt say " well im only new".
