Any men out there have a large head and difficulty in finding a hat, any style, to fit?
A family member has been diagnosed for a second time with solar keratosis and has been told in no uncertain terms to wear a hat with a brim in the summer, or factor 50 sunscreen. He hates sunscreen but is finding it nigh on impossible to source a panama type hat to fit, even XL are too tight and this is why he’s not been wearing one.

where has he tried? does it have to be a panama? What about an akubra or a legionaire hat?

This is part of the trouble bednobs, I doubt he’d wear either of those styles. It needs to be very light weight, comfortable, and for him to feel unselfconscious wearing it.
And because of his head size it limits what’s available to him. Lots of stores sell lots of hats he’d wear...but not in his size.
What is his hat size? Also does he have a budget?
My dad always bought his hats by their size - his was 6 and 7/8ths. He bought his from a tailor. Not sure about nowadays as more and more are closing down. Worth having a look on-line?

Would somewhere like this be of any help?
Certainly a specialist outfitters rather than a department store could help.

His hat size is seven and five eighths when measured but some hats of that size are quite tight.
Gosh Edmundo, they’re a price aren’t they??
Mamy, he’s been looking at that website and I think is going to speak to someone there tomorrow.
To be honest he’s a bit of a fuss pot, but he does need to find a hat he’s happy with or I know he won’t wear it.
Thank you all for your help.
Do encourage him to invest in a good fitting hat if you can, would save him from his keratosis developing into something more serious.

He’s bigger than extra large bookbinder but thanks for the link.
I tried last time mamy, but to no avail. I’m really hoping this is a wake up call for him, he’s been told in no uncertain terms what could happen if he doesn’t take this seriously.
Question Author
Mamy, he spoke to an extremely helpful lady this morning from the company you gave the link to, and has ordered a hat which will be delivered tomorrow.
I have everything crossed it fits and he likes it.
