Handkerchief Use

I popped out to Co op earlier and stood behind a man (2m) who was using a handkerchief to blow his nose and then put it back in his pocket. He then went into the store and started doing his shopping, probably picking things up, looking at them and putting them back again as a lot of us do when shopping.

Other people will then pick these items up and I'm hoping like me, will wash everything purchased.

I've never liked handkerchiefs but I know many use them and regularly wash them (I hope).

How do you feel about these given the situation we're in at present and that we're told to bin tissues after each use and then wash our hands.

Well if your nose needs blowing in the co op and you use a tissue what are you supposed to do with it? It would go in your pocket just like a handkerchief wouldn’t it?
And you’d continue with your shopping I guess.

I just feel that tissues would be more hygienic but I see your point.

Hopefully, he would have caught all the possible virus laden mucus in his handkerchief and so his hands were cleanish.

tbh, I would have thought stuff was less likely to soak through a hanky than a tissue.

He should have sanitized his hands after doing that. Hand washing and sanitizing seems to have been forgotten in the rush to avoid standing more than 2 metres from people.

I was thinking about the multiple use of a hanky. Each time you use it it gets more dirtier.

In the days before tissues, Handy Andies, I had a clean handkerchief every day. However, if I had a cold, I would be using a drenched handkerchief to blow my nose and would end up with a really sore, scabby nose which was painful to wipe properly. I remember mum soaking all our hankies in a bucket of bleach water. Then, she would boil them up in a saucepan. Dark days indeed. Thank goodness for Handy Andies.

How can you wash everything purchased ?

In the 44 years I have been married my wife would never have a handkerchief in the house. No way would she let a snot laden rag go in the washing machine.
