Name of book

I read a book back in school but i can't remember the title. We read it as a whole class. I think it was about a boy and his family (i think a brother and father) after some sort of a nuclear bomb goes off. I remember one bit where he hid in some sort of a shelter to escape acid rain. Not really much to go on but its really annoying that i can't remember what it was called. Any help would be good thanks!

Sounds similar to 'when the wind blows' by raymond briggs, but I think that was a cartoon ( graphic novel) style of book

No its not "When the wind blows". Thats an old couple.i've seen clips of it on tv but haven't seen the whole thing. Thanks for your input tho:D

There was some sort of nuclear bomb in Z for Zacharia but I cant remember anything else about it sorry.

Not sure it's Z for Zach anymore, that was just a girl who survived in protected valley. Could be: On the Beach, Brother in the Land or Chrysalids-all mentioned previously along with When he Wind Blows when 'what was that book where nuclear holocaust took place:' questions have been asked!!

It sounds like Robert Swindells' Brother in the Land.

I read it recently and it loses nothing for aging.

It's still in print, by the way.
