Yes definitely sandy
A girl I was at school with (many years ago) had a baby with a german seaman. They split up soon after but got back together when their son was about two. Neither parent could speak the others language to start with so the boy spoke to each in their mother tongue and acted as translator too.
In my experience, yes, a friend in Paris being Icelandic, her hubbie, an All Black and their son, aged 3 trilingual....Mummy, can I have a pomme..... My goddaughter had some mix ups as well, French and English, but it does disappear.....
// What, a bit like PP,lol.//
no I am not bilingual but I did talk my brudda out of a spying charge in arabic in Cairo which I thought was pretty good

I just deliberately lard my posts with at least three languages just to vex the aggressively monoglot posters and thinker on AB

er - bilingual kids - there is quite a lot written about this
and their acquisistion of language

Babbling - stick an english kid in front of a Mandarin and they will coo " o look he is beginning to speak Mandarin ". I asked my niece who she thought wouuld be elected president and she said " durdle durdle durdle" in a real Darzet accent - really strong /r/s which I thought was near enough to: you will get a Turkey for a president ( Reagan ) - - 1979 - she was canadian

Kids do acquire both languages at different rates and show a preference for the most advanced one. Mixing ( switching)
"eed eez - ow u say - tray diffiseal!" is a sign of weakness of language acquisition but is common even in adults

People often think switching show bilingualism but is a weakness

read a book and read all abart it

Jesus they cant keep off cultural aggression - english trying to suffocate all other UK languages - wivvart pointing out that polish ukrainian households in the UK dont feel this pressure

trilingo
oh can I add that the only trilingual song to be a hit anywhere
( palomares belge) was
sherry shetema ..... er sorry cherie je t'aime - cherie je t'adore !
salsa pomodoro -- - masallama

( the last two are italian and arabic 1958)
Big hit then when I was eight - I onlhy found out the reason why no really knew the words last year.
