Anti Lockdown Protest
there's an anti lockdown protest in Glastonbury today.

The lockdown has gone on too long. It just has.
Six words - The economy, the economy, the economy.
If anybody is blind to the overriding importance of the economy, then they obviously don’t contribute to it.

Teacake 19.46. I agree that the vast majority of people contribute to the economy. If this lockdown carries on then every service will be short of funds, including the NHS (not a fan, by the way - the nurses and doctors are wonderful, the system has woeful shortcomings i.m.o.).
Crowded protests are, indeed, to be deplored - but people are being driven past their patience-levels. It's OK for me, I have a pension, which will diminish in purchasing power because of the inevitable inflation to come and give me huge problems which no-one else will notice, but so many have found all their income gone. Just like that. Perhaps protesters should gather 2 yards apart and then it would be OK.?
Many small businesses (including my sister's MOT garage) will go out of business in about 2 weeks, so depriving the exchequer of contributions at the same time as demanding compensation for the workforce in the form of social security. It's not rocket science.

I would have agreed with jourdain and others about being "driving past our patience levels", but, from what I've seen, support for the lockdown remains strong. It seems that most of us are able, at least as long as we trust the Government's actions, to tolerate the lockdown measures. Maybe it won't be long before even that patience wears thin, but I've been surprised that such protests are so small-scale. In the UK, at least.
support for continuing lockdown is in the high 80% range - a bit lower when it comes to reopening schools.

Even social distancing measures can clearly not be maintained for ever, with massive queues. Lift the lockdown totally, treat people who become ill and accept that some will die. Not acceptable? Hard cheese, quite frankly.
