I passed my driving test in 1977 and have been told I can ride a 50cc scooter without having to take a motorbike test. Does any one know if this is true. Thanks in advance

I think that now all riders of bikes / scooters have to take a CBT (compulsary bike test?) before they are allowed on the road with L plates.

I took my driving test in 1989 and i certainly had to do a CBT.
You are licenced to drive a moped which is defined as 'maximum design speed 30 mph - under 250 kg in weight and under 50cc '
Yes you can ride a 50cc scooter without having a test. If you obtained your car licence before 1 February, 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped.

It is still advised however to do Compulsory Basic Training (costs around 100). Obviously for you this is optional, so it just depends on how confident you feel.
