Geordies saying "pet " banned!..................
What on earth is this world coming too, in the news today Newcastle Council have banned anyone saying " PET " because they reckon it belittling the person its been said to as an animal. What utter rubbish, I'm from the north/east and this word is a term of endearment, it has always has been and I would never be offened if someone said it to me. Its the as someone calling you "HINNY "
What do other northerners think of this ban? X X X :-)

i agree catwoman.
although from an 'outsiders' point of view all people from the north east are Geordies, people actually from the north east know better than to refer to everyone as 'geordies'.
Mackems (from Sunderland) in particular are likely to take offence, and correct the person who made the error in a such way that they're unlikely to make the mistake again! lol :o)

it bugs all us northeasterners to death. anyone who doesnt know any better lumps us all together as geordies. in reality, geordieland only covers the area from 10 miles or so north of newcastle (all the way to the coast though) down to the south side of gateshead. on the south of the tyne, however, if you get to close to the coast at jarrow/south shields you become a "sanddancer", and if you travel further south you then become a mackem.
the folk from down south have even been known to lump the smogmonsters and the monkeyhangers in with the true geordies.
