Mr RR was listening to the radio about 3 weeks ago, where an economist was suggesting, that to help the economy survive, the government should give every adult £1200 each to buy whatever they want. It must be spent within a certain time limit or you lose it, you absolutely cannot save it.

What would you buy?

I think I’d blow it on a couple of very nice meals out and get a new laptop.

Nice idea, but I doubt it would happen.

Giving every adult £1200 would cost approx £63b. This would have to be repaid somehow (on top of all the other Govt coronavirus handouts). Where did this ‘economist’ get his degree from; the university of Ugglebarnaby?

I dunno, maybe the same one as the Japanese government
I'd spend it on new conservatory blinds or get new covers for all the furniture cushions in there.
I suppose one of the conditions was that, whatever you bought, it should be BRitish made?

I totally agree with that
I'd like a new ipad and a new TV, but if it has to be British made, then I would buy new containers for the garden and fill them with locally grown plants. I'd also go out for a meal in an independent restaurant and buy a subscription to our local newspaper. I really must do that anyway.
I’d put it towards the Lego Disney castle and after I had built it I would sell it on FB and buy the Lego Fishing Shack and then just keep on building and selling (in reality, I’d give it to the kids).
I'd like a ceiling in the bathroom.
You’re not supposed to just fritter it away like that, lady j.
I would give some to the local cat orphanage (Cat's protection) and some to Oxfam (buy books) and then bank the rest.
ZM if the requirement was for something British made, that would rule out the majority of stuff and wouldn't do much for british retail.
wolf the rules of the "game" are you can't save it.
woof - a second laptop then, nothing too exciting.
Give it to my fave animal charities so that they could buy food and other stuff for the animals in their care.
Up date my kitchen, or replace flooring in kitchen and hall.
I would buy a high spec laptop for Little Tigs and whatever's left I'd spend on groceries and give to animal charities.
‘ZM if the requirement was for something British made, that would rule out the majority of stuff and wouldn't do much for british retail.’
