bernardo - fairly sure it's pronounced to rhyme with "youth" as I think I remember my grandmother using it when making a cup of tea "I've got a fair drouth" or something similar. She was very very Scottish!

Bernardo's suggested word 'drouth' is indeed pronounced 'drooth', to rhyme with 'youth', in Scotland to this day, at least among older people. However, although archaic, it is (was) pronounced 'drowth' to rhyme with 'south' in England.

Accordingly, if you don't mind being a bit old-fashioned, you can easily say: "Folks in Louth - though quite far south - might have a drouth."
