Worth going back to the doctors for, if he hasn't already. If he's had any kind of operation or invasive procedure very recently, the blood may just be from that, but it's not worth taking the risk. Sometimes something as innocent as straining too much, holding it in too long or bruising your bladder is enough to cause trace elements in your urine, but it's always worth checking again and repeating the test.
My husband had renal failure too but has now thankfully had a transplant. Is the surgery your husband having, to put a fistula in?
The protein in his urine will be from the kidney not functioning anymore, as this is one of the things the kidney filters through.
There are some great Renal associations's that your husbands renal dept will be able to put him on to for support.
I wish you and your husband all the best :o)
Thanks wingnut, he is having his prostate reduced and his bladder cleared we have been told his kidneys have almost returned to normal so hopefully this should clear his problem.
