Random Q:

Ever noticed how some folk have you somehow “volunteering” personal info.

It’s weird how some people have that effect on me.

Eg: started new job. One of my colleagues doesn’t pry (at all) in a noticeable way yet I’ve already volunteered various random bits of info. In a SHORT space of time.

Which is not like me. I like to keep my personal stuff to myself usually!!

But somehow she has that effect on me.

Dunno if it’s the way she leaves long pauses that make me (subconsciously) feel I need to fill in the empty space...

But I don’t like that I do it and I have a gut feeling (without any valid reason) that she is a “gatherer of info” intentionally (she been here a L-O-N-G time) abd that she might feel threatened by any new person.

That said she’s been nothing but pleasant to me.

But I really need to guard my tongue

You seem to have good insight into your reaction to your colleague - e.g.- the long pauses which you feel the need to fill.
Carry on being pleasant but - difficult to do I know - but try and count to ten before you respond. She's probably not really being prying - maybe she's trying to put you at ease.
I have always been the person in my work place that people talk to / confide in.

I was a Samaritan volunteer for three years, maybe it's something inbuilt in me that I am not aware of, but it happens a lot, and always has.

Fortunately, I am as discreet as a room full of priests and lawyers, and I have never betrayed a confidence, ever.
Just try to train yourself into filling pauses with anonymous but pleasant things,weather/TV/Fashion - anything other than personal info.
