While I applaud the idea of a statue, I would have thought a commemorative statue should be of the person concerned, not some modern sculptor's fantasy.

The work is celebrating MW's legacy, rather than seeking to be a representation of the woman herself. That makes sense to me but it might be better to refer to the work as a 'sculpture', rather than as a 'statue'.

Ah! PP right, I failed that one.
I lived in Stoke Newington for 24 years, less than a mile from where the statue has been placed. I know the site where the school was that is mentioned in the report very well because it now houses Stoke Newington Fire Station. But...I never knew there was a school there and I'd never heard (until now) of Mary Wollstonecraft. You live and learn.
