Covid Isolation

I’m not really understanding this isolation .
So if you are with some one on a Friday for eg and they are well and then on Monday they have a test for covid and it comes back positive would the person who was with them on Friday need to self isolate? Even if the person was well on the Friday?
Basically when do you have to have last been with some one that’s tested positive before you self isolate.
As I’m getting confused with it all.

7 days at least and better still 7 to 14 days AFTER being in contact with a Covid positive person .

Yes as squad says (in fact its 14 days certainly 14 from the Friday) because they would also of been infected and infectious on the Friday probly as symtoms take time to appear/become clear

If you find out you have been in contact with someone with covid... 14 days from your contact.

or get a test maybe next week and if your clear your probly not infected but ring the NHS corona help line to check

Can I put it this way.
If you're contact is neg,to Covid 7 days after you have been with them,then you are probably in the clear.
If your contact is negative to Covid 14 day's after being with you,you are definitely in the clear.
With that contact.

A ‘contact’ is a person who has been close to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 anytime from 2 days before the person was symptomatic up to 10 days from onset of symptoms (this is when they are infectious to others).

I don’t know the answer but I don’t think any of the answers so far are what Hannah is actually asking.

I’m not sure if the answers explain ubasses may be close to what I’m not understanding.
So if a person is with a person on say a Friday and they are well then on Monday they become unwell have a test it’s covid would all the people that were with them Friday Saturday and Sunday go in to isolation or just the people that were with them Monday when they felt unwell and got tested.
I’m a support worker for 3 service users plus have 3 kids of my own and I’m trying to get my head round the isolation rules.

No. You were in contact with her on the Friday, when she quite possibly had it. You need to isolate from then. She may well have been contagious, without showing symptoms.

So that’s 4 days before.
It’s getting complicated. Is there a time limit to how long you need to be in contact with that person? And does it make a difference if you met out doors or indoors?

If you have to isolate for 14 days, before possible symptoms.... personally, I would give it 14 days after contact with them.

Yes....you have to assume that they were positive on Friday and you will have to isolate for a maximum of 10to 14 days.
