Trips to New York

Trying to help sister to arrange a trip to New York, on a limited budget for June 2007. Can anyone recommend which companies do best deals - would hope to fly from Glasgow if possible. Would imagine we would be best getting a 3 or 4 night break through a travel agent rather than booking flight and accom seperately? Any advice appreciated.

Personally, I would go for the separate flight and accomodation option- not only will you have the choice of all NYC hotels instead of the few that any travel agent deals with, but by shopping around online, you should be able to find the cheapest flight as well. ( often airline websites are cheaper than eg Expedia, Opodo etc).
We were in new York in June and I booked it myself after trawling through various websites-had a fantastic time.

I went to New York last December and did it seperately over t'internet. When checking out flights make sure you also check out flights to Newark. I flew there and got the bus into New York. The journey was about 40 minutes (no longer than from JFK I believe) and cost about $13. Even better, the bus brought us into the Port Authority bus station which was only 2 blocks from our hotel!

We went earlier this year, booked through onlinetravel.com, and got direct flights from Belfast to NY (which is v unusual!) and a week (bed and breakfast) in a decent hotel, walking distance from Times Sq, for less than �500.

Search around on the site mentioned above, try both the holiday and the city breaks section, and if you can be flexible with your dates you could just get lucky. For the week after we went, the prices had almost doubled.

Was reading elsewhere that Delta have just introduced a new route from London Gatwick to JFK. To promote this route they are doing return tickets for �160 (inc taxes). I think that you need to travel by end of April next year.

Continental have also started pricing London - NY flights similiarly.

If either of you are students try the STA ( student travel agency) they can offer excellent flight deals.
