One of the main issues now is mass communication.

Because everyone has access to the sort of scientific data that would only ever have concerned scientists years ago, we all feel we have to have updates every sixty seconds.

The problem there is that the inconsistencies in views and opinions - which have always been there - are now out in the world for all to see, and no-one really knows who to believe any more.
