Many vitamins can only be absorbed by the body in the presence of fats, which is why 'with food' commonly appears on the instructions for taking supplements. I'd just take them with whatever drink I was having with a meal, be that a cup of tea, a mug of coffee or a pint of beer ;-)

No pasta,I don't do links.
No not effervescent.
Some tablets have a coating which that they can be absorbed higher up in the GI tract.
Being fat soluble really outlines the fact that they are stored 8n body fat waiting to be used up.
I don't know which type he is taking but as water was mentioned then one must assume it was the coated type, soluble in water.
