I have recently signed up to Instagram, just out of mild interest.

I haven't put any details of myself, other than my name.

I notice that I have a follower.

Is there any way to see who this is?

Click on 'followers' which should bring who is following you.

That doesn't work, it just brings up a list of suggestions for who I should follow.

I find it a bit creepy, as it suggests I follow a guy I used to work with until redundancy eight years ago.

Your work colleague has uploaded his contacts book (containing your email address) to Facebook or Instagram.

Now you've signed up with that email address, it's recommending him to you.

To see your Instagram followers, in the menu bar at the bottom of the Instagram app, click your photo (bottom right of the app screen). Then click "Followers".

I've tried that, and it just brings up a list of suggestions to follow.

I couldn't sign up to Instagram with my email address so had to use my mobile number. My ex work colleague never had my email address anyway.

He would have had my mobile number, but surely would have deleted it by now.

ive never deleted a single mobile number. You never know when you might need a bone marrow transplant :)

I suppose that is how it linked us, but perhaps Big Brother has more ways to watch me than I realised.

No it doesn't, so you haven't followed the instructions correctly! Try it on desktop. Go to this URL ...

... replacing "hopkirksinstagramname" with your Instagram name.

On the app it does not show the follower.

I have logged in on my Chromebook and it shows there, some fragrance company.

Is there a way to reject a follower?
