Or some might want to class my observation as other? Looking in the window of Waterstones book shop today, though I might improve my knowledge with a good book??? I would think there are some good authors out there?

What I couldn't understand was nearly all the books in the window had either £4/ £5, off or some marked up at half price, but no were was there any price on the book.
Example: cost of book, £20, but now half price £10. or: cost of book £15, put £4 off = £10.
This means you have to enter the shop, wait in line, or outside until you're allowed in due to covid, just to ask the price. Is that just not stupid when they don't, at the moment want to many people in the shop at once.

Conclude at last, just put the dam price of the book, on the book in the window. Anyhow looking for answers why not?

There is a decent Farmfoods store 5 mins from my home which advertises it's goods in the windows, complete with prices of said goods. I'm with Teacake on this one. During the present shopping restrictions, it would be better for people to know just how much the products are. Otherwise, it encourages browsing, which in turn lengthens the amount of time...

^^ As already stated many times, impulse buying out and about, no internet connection.
You're on about the impact it has on Covid infections but since most folk have the internet on their 'phones, they can Google prices and buy online.
You were far safer when you were breaking lockdown rules and waltzing along the river bank !

May be to put an end to this thread. Waterstones are expensive, so any offer in the window just stating £5 off this book without displaying what the full price is/was, their are hiding the full price for a reason. Its a mad price to begin with, like many shops that don't display prices.

You're arguing about a business you think to be charging high prices for something you dont even want...
Bookshops are for browsing.
That’s part of the point of them :-)
Virus or no virus. And that’s why I hope they’ll be around a while yet.
"Crazy, and a waste of an expensive mobile call."..

You are the second one this week that thinks a phone call is expensive .. 25 years ago you could have said that, but not these days. Why do you think that people are abandoning their home phones and using their mobile instead ..... it's because mobiles are much cheaper to use.

PS .. what kind of emergency might you have in the middle of a shopping centre ???
Were you the owner of a basic smart phone you could google .. ' Emergency underpants supplier in town centre' .. LOL .. what price would you put on that phone call ?
'don't mean to say I have to follow'

No it don't(sp), but it proves you're at a disadvantage and explains why shops don't necessarily have to price items in their window.

Why am I at a disadvantage when I have a desktop computer at home? If I buy anything at all small, or a large purchase, I'm never in so much of a hurry I need to make a decision on the hoof, so have plenty of time to research at home before hand.
In fact after watching a program about Amazon this week it proved that a lot of items, in fact thousands are now a lot more expensive than the shops. Again I repeat the whole idea of having a good size window display, is to tempt people into the shop with the goods on display along with a price. Its a well know fact that many people shy away from goods that are not priced up, and will shop were they are priced.
