Oven space will be at a premium on Christmas Day so I want to serve a hot starter for Christmas dinner that I can cook in advance and reheat in the microwave. Does anyone have any suggestions, apart from soup? I would have liked to do a goat's cheese tart with puff pastry but I've read that pastry gets a bit soggy when reheated in the microwave.
It's probably the one day where we all sit down together and at made up table and talk and eat taking our time, the people of the Mediterranean countries do that all the time, when we visited Turkey many years ago, the owner of the hotel each evening would head the table with his extended family , everyone dressed suitably , the meal might go on for 4 hours +
Thanks all. Some mouth-watering suggestions there!
I don’t routinely do starters but have lost 2 stone during lockdown this year so will be pushing the boat out for one day only.
I do like a cooktail starter but one year helping to prepare it picking the heads of fresh king prawns put me off. Needless to say I wouldn't have brought many meals back for those in the jungle or castle.
Personally, if you’re determined to do a starter, I’d do a cold one, something like a prawn cocktail type thing, or home made smoked mackerel pate, or toast, pate and a lovely chutney.
You’ve enough to do without worrying about a hot starter (not many hot starter type things do well heated in a microwave in my experience).
