Morrisons is offering 10% discount to NHS workers, teachers and blue light workers. But what about others who have worked to keep services running throughout the pandemic? Bus and train drivers have ensured that there has always been public transport and Postal workers have kept the mail moving. I'm sure there are others who deserve our gratitude too.

I have no problem with discounts, as I pointed out on the earlier thread lots of workers have access to discount schemes.

Undoubtedly when a store like this rolls something out some will feel ignored.

I don't have it in for teachers. But this scheme is supposedly as a reward for dealing with a difficult situation over the last nine months. Many teachers spent six of those months at home. That has been confirmed by many of their head teachers. Yes they work among children. But go into a supermarket or shopping centre with schools nearby after about 3.30pm and the people at risk there are the customers who are confronted with packs of schoolchildren roaming around simply faffing about. Teachers are not the only ones at risk from schoolchildren.

From someone who has been an intensive care nurse, a hospital bedmanager (admin) I can tell you the admin role had far more impact on the patients who were in my case nearly all cancer patients on time sensitive treatments, was a lot harder work. Without up to date records, someone answering the phone so nurses don't have to ,without the person making sure discharges are processed, and admissions arranged the nurses wouldn't have time to fart let alone care for the sick. it's called a healthcare team for a reason. Of course there will be some, who are not frontline, but they may be redeployed to those roles often the case after injury or burn out. So take your prejudices about what goes on and think about what really happens to get you into that hospital bed, with the right records, and who talks to your family when they phone, or makes sure your primary care team are updated.

Police, postmen, bus drivers (train drivers are not in touch with the general public in the same way), delivery drivers, refuse collectors are all deserving of extra help. imo.

Why not teachers? My daughter has worked all through this. Her being in the classroom has allowed front line workers to go to work while their kids are in school. Been damned hard.
