Am off there next month. Was wondering what your must -see places would be. Planning to see S.O.L, Times Sq, Empire State, Bronx Zoo.

Unless you want to go up the Statue of Liberty ( I ask because the queues are long) you get a very good veiw of it from the Statton Island Ferry, which is free. Central Park is worth seeing. Empire State Building you can book online before you go - saves you queueing. Grand Central Station, Times Sq at night, Rockerfella Centre (you can book that online too) The ride in the lift to the top is interesting. Little Italy, ride in a NY Taxi, Bloomingdales, New York Central Library If you have time. The list is endless, get yourself a good guide book and pick the things that will interest you the most because you won't have time for it all.

I am very envious, we were there in July and I can't wait to go back, have a wonderful time

Watching a show on broadway is a must but the tickets are expensive (50 quid upwards). If you are not really bothered what you watch, go to TKTS on the day of the performance for half price tickets.

There is a TKTS in Times Square but there is also one down near the South Street Seaport (which is very good for shopping) and the queues here will be smaller than Time Square. We got same day tickets for Phantom of the Opera for half price.

Also, there is a bar called "No Idea" which is on 20th Street, just down from the Flat Iron building.

Its not the bar thats outstanding, its just a regular bar.

Its the fact that ever night they choose a first name, and if you can prove that its your first name, you drink for free all night! I turned up on Paul night but I had no id on me so I couldnt prove it! The following night was going to be Karen night and one of our group was called Karen so we went back the next night and she drunk for free all night!

We got married there and stayed 10 days, so much to see!! Forget the SOL, Jim is right, it is a long queue for a little reward. Central Park, The Natural History Museum, we went for an hour and stayed all day. The Shwartz FAO toy store, as seen in BIG, bloomingdales, Empire State Building, the Marritt Hotel in Broadway ( agreat revolving bar/ restaurant) and the subway. Great for getting around. We also just walked a lot.!!! You will love it, the best place I have ever been to.

I went last year and went to Macys, Times Square, Staten Island Ferry, Wall Street, helicopter ride over Manhatten (booked over the internet), Greenwich Village, Little Italy, Chinatown, Central Park, Metropolitan Museum of Art (fantastic Tiffanys stuff and Egyptian stuff), Empire State at night, Broadway show (booked over internet), Fifth Avenue, Grand Central Station (which was amazing), Rockefeller Centre (including Top of the Rock - again booked on internet). I wanted to go up the Top of the Rock during the day as it has amazing views over Central Park, so did the Empire State at night for a different perspective. The only things I didn't do which I wish I had (but ran out of time!) were the Flatiron building and Bloomingdales. It all depends on how long you're going for, I was there for 4 nights, so didn't do too bad in the time I had!

I stayed at the Marriot Marquis on Broadway, its amazing with bedroom views though very high up you can look down on Broadway and its busy all night.This is the hotel where Arnie rode the horse through in the film True Lies, as well as the revolving bar their steak house served the best steak I have ever tasted.
Dont forget to visit Ellis Island when you do the S.O.L though it sounds boring it is not, the film comentary is done by Gene Hackman and the 2 nd time we visited we were too late for the film but a guide took us around and at that time all the guides were descendants of immigrants that had been processed through Ellis Island and the commentary brought tears to my eyes.

sorry forgot to say the "hop on hop off" bus from Times Square is good value for money to get around.
