Worm Casts

Help!! my new lawn is riddled with worm casts all year long. They are ruining the lawn but obviously I dont want to kill them, just deter them and move them on. There are no problems in neighbouring gardens or in the adjoining field. Is it to do with the acidity in the soil perhaps? Any advice would be appreciated as it's no problem when its dry, we can just sweep them away, but when they are wet they get trodden on and smeared all over the grass making muddy patches which stop the grass growing. Thank you

Is it possible to avoid walking on the grass when it's wet? Could you put some kind of path down?

Thank you both. Will test soil acidity. We have never seen so many worms, literally hundreds. Thought slugs were our problem !!!

As vulcans link says, use a soft rake or hard broom to distribute the casts

Worms aren't a problem - they are sign of very good soil.

You don't want them to move on. You want to simply brush the casts around.

When your new lawn becomes more established, I'm sure things will improve.
I find that the birds that visit my garden, make a meal of them.
