Item on Sky this evening that said: "incidents of sexual abuse in English and Welsh universities were found to be the tens of thousands".
1. What constitutes 'sexual abuse'? A wolf-whistle, an inappropriate drunken kiss, the touching of an elbow? Attempted rape? Not specified.
2. 'were found to be' means precisely what? Were all these claims investigated? Probably not.
3. Always unsure when people use phrases like 'in the tens of thousands. So how many?
Unless they define what constitutes 'sexual abuse' these so-called statistics are utterly meaningless.

I do find it interesting that if I leave my laptop on the seat of my car and it's stolen I'm classed as an idiot for not being careful but if a young girl walks around with all her goods on display and some boy handles them it's classed as his fault. I'd love to be able to leave my house and car unlocked but know things would go missing; ladies should take reasonable precautions.

Yes, but the flaw in that point is that you shouldn't be classed as an idiot in the first place.

There's a place for sensible precautions, for sure, but in the end the blame is entirely the criminal's, as it always should be.

And it’s not as if the poor boy has actually stolen “the goods”.
Apart from anything else, your “interesting” moment neglects the fact that the person who steals your laptop is not going to get off just because you were careless.
Other than that there is no comparison whatever between the two situations.

The comparison is that in both cases you tempt somebody to do something wrong and then are surprised when they do it.

Some of this would previously come under the heading of "making a pass".

Lots of long term relationships wouldn't have happened if one of them hadn't "made a pass".

It doesn't help, of course, when a former president of the USA thinks it's OK to do such things and even brag about it; he's then classed as an "Alpha male" to be admired.

There's a pretty clear distinction between "making a pass" and sexual harassment. So, no, I don't accept that, and I don't think anyone should take that suggestion seriously either.
