What sort of houses in the UK have septic tanks? Just referring to a question someone asked here earlier. I thought everyone had mains drainage.

There is a lot here on Anglesey, you will be surprised how many houses have them when it is not economical for the water companies to plumb in isolated properties.
we live in a rural location, only 4 houses here, so water company won't connect mains drains. Its not so bad, our water rates are only 50/year!!
Where im living right now has a septic tank... and we live quite far out in the countryside shropshire/worcestershire area
almost every country house in northern ireland has one, even some town houses, we seem to just have small water treatment plants in all the villages, fro the residents of the village and no mains sewers anywhere in the countryside
