When I used to get mine from the Farmer's Market they were all double-yolked
A few years back I bought a box of extra large eggs and they all had double yolks in them. Poor hen!
I seem to remember reading that double yolks depend on the age of the hen. I'm not sure that the egg is any bigger though.
I know I get them several times a year...and sometimes more than one in a box, so they aren't uncommon.

Thats it then, these eggs happen to be XL. Mind you ive only found one so far after eating 8.
I remember Dave Gorman - modern life is goodies, and you can buy a box of double Yorkers.

I have to say when i first came across one I thought the Hen was mutated or something… I did eat it anyway.
Had one a few days ago. It wasn't any bigger but it definitely felt heavier when I picked it up (before breaking it).

*Goodish and Yolkers, I am on my phone ;-)
Waitrose sells boxes of double yokers.
You've eaten 8, Piggy?

You will be eggbound. Have some prunes, quickly.

Eggsxactly hoppy :)
I used to be able to buy double yolkers at certain times of the year. Apparently it occurs when chickens start laying.
Normally it's young hens just coming into lay.
ive found an egg with 3 yolks before. Only once.
No eggs-ageration.

btw hellywelly and barmaid are correct in that its usually the very young hens that double lay. But so do many old hens - for eg the battery hens that are rescued.

Its similar to a human - in the beginning of puberty ovulation is not regular and in the peri-menopause neither, so more eggs may be released by the ovary.
