9d Noisy northern town sins he's carried out. I assume the answer is ghoulishness but the definition seems not to be there. Ghoul sounds like Goole northern town then, sins he's, anagram.

I couldn't work out whether 9d was trying ( and failing miserably) to be an '&lit' or if there was something missing from the clue.

I may not be explaining myself well, we know the answer and how it is derived from the clue, what we are looking for is a definition within the clue that matches 'Ghoulishness'.

The clue gives the answer, but it does not explain why the answer should be 'ghoulishness'. I have searched for a solution, but I cannot find one. There seems to be something missing from the clue.
