They'll need to play a lot better than that on Sunday against Italy, who have raced away in this tournament, whilst England have trudged their way to the final. My heart says England. My head says Italy.
Same here Roy. Last night was almost an out of body experience when it was on. Made myself queasy with Aussie Shiraz, and excitement. I am supposed to monitor my blood pressure not motor it. Have done a full catch up and done the rewinds and "have another look" routine and it is plain that England were by far the better team on the night. Not sure about Pickford, I think he looked on the verge of a breakdown for most of the match. If Southgate dropped him for the final I would not be unduly bothered. Sterling was indeed sterling, Shaw was sure, and Kane proved sweet eventually. I note that the anti England faction are back in full nauseous mode but that somehow makes the achievement all the better. Best moment was in the first minutes of extra time when 5ft 2in Sterling wiped out their 6ft 7in lurch look alike no 3. Priceless. The Italy defence will find that zimmer frame defending will not be advantageous come Sunday.
Also not convinced, Mozz, that we can afford the naivety of both Saka and Phillips against the streetwise mafioso. Phillips will get pinged all night for his early "interventions" and Saka will not be allowed to get the ball in space and look up. Not my decision thankfully. The Italians, as we cogitate, are no doubt looking at how to stop or discredit Sterling. They know what he can do after playing him in European club competitions. Just another observation ... anyone noticed the lack of "diversity" in the Danish team, and indeed in the Italian one. Do the selectors get criticism in those Countries? They would in England if we had a team without "cultural" representation wouldn't they.
I couldn't be bothered to watch 'the match' the first time around (assuming that you're referring to 22 guys kicking a ball about in London last night) and I won't be watching 22 guys kicking a ball about on Sunday. (Does anyone know where I can get an Italian flag before then though?).
There was one match taking place today which could be worth watching several times over though, even though England were effectively fielding a reserve team (due to Covid)!

Mozz, injuries aside, the excuse most commonly used for Nick Pope not being the England number one keeper is that his distribution of the ball is poor! Even on a bad day, his distribution would have been a darn sight better than Pickford's was v Denmark and he is a much better shot-stopper. Then again, i would say that, wouldn't i? I always believed a goalkeeper's job was to prevent the ball going into the onion bag. They'll be taking corners, next :-/
Togo, i actually laughed out loud when that Sterling v Vestergaard incident occurred. The giant Southampton man went down as if he had been hit by Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury simultaneously :-)
