Pruning And Harvesting
10 Answers
Hi, today we have some pruning and harvesting tips for you! Make sure you get your last hedge trim of the season soon. We’d recommend leaving all heavy pruning until spring now, but you could still take cuttings from rose plants and pot them for winter.
Whilst pruning foliage, keep an eye out for fruit such as pears or apples. Now is a perfect time to harvest them! It’s also the ideal time to go blackberry picking for fruit or to make jam. A ripe blackberry is black with a plump feel, and it will come away with just a slight pull. If the blackberry is red or purple or is harder to pluck, it’s not ready yet.
Do you have any memories of blackberry picking or foraging for fruits?

O' yes I remember those family blackberry picking days, when I was a kid. My advice would be: pick only what you can easily reach (avoid trampling), so the birds get a share. Look inside each berry, to make sure of no maggots. Pick higher than what a fox or dog can cock its leg.
