someone i know had a court case yesterday - does anyone know if there is a website i can go to to tell me what the outcome of the case was?

No website yet, but I believe one is planned (so next century then!). Individual courts may have them.
You can contact the court as all outcomes of adult cases (over 18) are in the public domain. Courts are obliged to make this available to local press.
They may want to establish why you want to know, but this shouldn't put you off.
