I found a German Shepherd-Labrador mix puppy about 5 years ago. She was starving to death. I took her home and raised her till she was around 8 months old. She was too big to live in a tiny flat so my dad decided to take her to his farmhouse and keep her there. Since she's been there she's been neglected. She got pregnant 4 times and became nearly paralysed due to a virus. I was busy with college, but I finally went and spayed her. She's so healthy, playful and strong now and the vet said she has the energy of a one year old dog. She's not very well trained though. She has eaten hens and ducks and she's very aggressive. She has a metal chain that she has broken several times. I'm a petite woman and I don't have the strength to even take her for a walk. She's so dear to me I want to provide a better life for her and take her abroad with me in less than a year. I want to keep her in a garden, but I'm not sure how to deal with her aggressiveness and reassure the neighbours will be safe. I'm not often near her to train her. I visit her every 2 months and my dad simply doesn't care. Spaying hasn't subdued her aggressiveness.

it doesnt matter (to me at least) what reason you only see her six times a year so it doesnt need clearing up.
i just wonder why she is so dear to you?

Pastafreak/ If I manage to decrease her aggressiveness it won't be very difficult to walk her. But at the moment her strength is beyond my endurance.
Question Author
Bednobs/ I'm not sure if you have any emotion to understand why something or someone might be dear in your life otherwise you wouldn't ask me this question.
Where do you live and where are you planning to live abroard. There are very strict entry requirements for travelling with animals and very few airlines, if any, will allow a large dog in the cabin.
You really need to get the dog assessed by a professional before you make any decisions. A five year old dog will be difficult to retrain and will need many hours of tour attention daily. I have fostered and rehomed over 70 dogs and have dealt with many problem ones. They are a full time 24/7 hard work. Please think carefully
You are 21 and living in a hostel do you already have a job with house and a garden lined up? That's what I meant by flimsy future. Also even a pedigree dog wouldn't sell for enough to finance a move abroad, much less an adult cross. Where do you mean by abroad anyway?
yep maybe we have dfferent ideas about what dear to us means. If i loved a dog as you claim to, i wouldnt countenance them living with a bad-tempered, neglectful owner
15 to 30 minutes a day is the bare minimum this dog needs. 4 to 5 hours is more like it. It will be a long and very slow rehabilitation
It is not fair or right to leave a dog alone in a garden all day when you are at work. She will most probably be bored, lonely and unhappy. Please do what is right for her and find a good rescue who will rehabilitate her and find her the right owners who will NOT leave her on her own all day.
shes ate hens + ducks!!! she should be put down! simple as that.

I won't mention any more details about my personal life. It's ridiculous how you think dog owners don't work and they spend 24 hours a day at home to take care of their dogs. Then how do I feed her? You know nothing about my life or my plans. That house with a garden is not a luxurious Victorian style villa. If you do a little research you can find houses with a garden that will cost you less than €900 a month. All my life my plans have appeared filmsy and now the only plan I haven't achieved yet is immigration which is going to happen in less than a year. That was my last post below this question. The logical users on here told me to spend more time with my dog and try to train her and get professional help. And there's no other way to improve her behaviour. I'll figure something out.
When it mauls somebody (with is virtually inevitable) the cops with euthanise it (and probably prosecute you) so why not forestall them and avoid the prosecution.

Canary42/ Your child is so uncontrollable he's prone to killing babies. If he does the police will take him to juvenile jail and you'll bear the legal consequences as well. Why not lock him inside the house to avoid those consequences?
what an odd response!
